Description
"A medieval chapel once stood at East Shaftoe and although the walls were still visible in the 1990s they were in a dilapidated state. The first documentary reference to the chapel is in 1378, so it had been built before that time. In the early 19th century the chapel measured 66ft (20.1m) long and the burial ground was still visible. In 1831 the chapel was partly excavated. This revealed a stone floor with a line of holes marking where the altar rail would have stood, and a grave slab which was moved to East Shaftoe Hall....." -
