The Mill, Warenton

  • Description

"This old steam mill was part of a farmstead in which is all that remains of the medieval village of Warenton. Coal would not have been a problem as there was surface coal working in the area at the beginning of the industrial revolution. The workings can be seen as green bumps and depressions, which are also marked on the 1:25,000 OS series. Hard to imagine this beautiful and rural landscape could have ever been the site of any industry. The mill has now been turned into a holiday cottage www.northumberlandmill.co.uk and the sitting room is in the old engine room. The fire draws very well!" Photo by Graham Hay-Smith, 2007.
