"Obelisk. 1788 by Newton Ogle. Ashlar, Square base inscribed VINDICATA LIBERTAS PUBLICA MDCCCLXXXVIII NEWTON OGLE Tall tapering shaft with pyramidal top. On south side an oval panel carved, apparently, with a cap on a stick. Erected presumably on the centenary of the 1688 revolution..."
