Text Appearing Before Image: e Architect, Mr. Lish, has contributed a section in thisbook on the building, but I may briefly add here to his accounta note respecting some of the features. The Laboratory is de-signed entirely for research. The room styled the Laboratory *is provided with six tables separated by partitions, and two ofthese are completed to form private rooms.t A third privateroom adjoins the Laboratory. The specimen room, in additionto the shelves and cupboards and draweis, possesses a table fortwo workers. There is, in addition, opening from the Labora-tory, a well furnished library and a store room for reagents, etc.The Laboratory tables have teak tops, and there is an iron-sheathed table for the paraffin baths. Each worker has a table, cupboard and drawer, shelves, and sink with hot and cold freshand salt water. Microtomes are provided. In the private aquarium there are 38 shallow concrete tanks, and a concrete table for experiments and for glass aquaria. The * See Date facing- p. 70. t See p. 78. Text Appearing After Image: 73 tanks, as will be seen from tlie plans (see p. TO), are arrangedin six rows, and they may be nsed in series of as many as arefonnd to be convenient for each class of work. Each tank is fittedwith a paddle to agitate the water when required, the power beingobtained from a tip bucket supplied by the water entering theroom—the water being thereafter passed into the tanks in afiltered or an unfiltered condition as wanted. Two of thewooden tanks from the old laboratory have been brought into usein this room. They are connected with the concrete tanks abovementioned by a long trough, so that lai^vre, for example, maybe led to any of the rows of tanks. The room is, therefore, wellequipped for storing material for research, for embryologicalwork, for experiments in hatching, and for infection and physio-logical experiments. A small tank is provided for photographyopposite a window which can be opened completely. The wastewater is carried away by surface drains in the concrete floor.
