Musgrave Bridge's new railings

  • Description

"The River Eden overtops its banks regularly, flooding this area. In 1830 these wrought iron railings were installed in the walls leading to the stone bridge built 5 years earlier, to allow floodwater to pass through. They were restored in 2008, but damaged again on 6 December 2015 when Storm Desmond passed through. They have been restored again." Photo by Christine Johnstone, 2018.
