Description
"The Allen window and the Nelson window. The Allen window at left was designed by R R Nichol, with the glass prepared by Mrs C Boyce of Banks, Lanercost. Installed in memory of the Rev J M Allen, Rector of the Parish from 1961 to 1972, it shows Christ with two young people as Rev Allen was greatly involved in youth work. Christ is robed in khaki to acknowledge Rev Allen's war service with the Border Regiment, while the window also includes a dog, haaf-net fishing and flowers and birds of the Solway Firth. The Nelson window was executed by Alex Haynes of Brampton and commemorates the life of Mrs Elizabeth Nelson (1923-1998), who was Churchwarden from 1968 to 1998. It depicts St Michael holding the scales of judgement while protecting the weak, symbolised by a child who is pointing to the sun and the sword of the angel, who leads the fight against evil."
