Podgill Viaduct masonry

  • Description

"The South Durham and Lancashire Railway opened in 1861 as single track. The track was doubled in about 1892, which required the viaducts to be widened. This shot of one of the piers shows the difference between the original (on the right or NW side) and later masonry. See http://www.nvt.org.uk/" Photo by Ian Taylor, 2011.
