Passing (mosaic), Whitley Bay Station


"Passing" is a triptych mosaic located in the entrance hall to Platform 2 at Whitley Bay Station. Created in 1983, it expresses the passing of time through the images of a young family on a day trip to the beach (outer panels) and later a a nocturnal seascape (inner pannel).

Passing by Ian Patience. This mosaic was made by the following young people of the Projex Agency under the suoervision of Ian PatienceA.J. Murphy, L. Spoor, J. Blyth, A. Thompson, C. Rafferty. Assisted by D. Munro, T. Emery, C. Higgins. The work was jointly sponored by Gatehead M.B.C. , Northern Arts, Tyne and Wear Transport Executive and carried out through the Youth Opportunities Programme of the Mapower Services Commission.
