Panama Swimming Club
The Panama Swimming Club is a popular membership-based swimming club, with its club house located on the North Promenade in Whitley Bay. The club is named after a ship that was wrecked nearby, in the 1930s[1]. The current club house dates from the early 1950s and has a brick ground floor and timber upper floor. It has male and female changing and shower rooms and a lounge area. The club has 3 organised swims each week. There is a tradition of swims in the sea on Boxing Day and particularly New Year's Day at Whitley Bay, which attract large numbers of people - these swims aren't organised by the club[2], but are focussed beside the club house.
