Old Felling Station

The original Felling Station (aka Brandling Station) was built by the Brandling Junction Railway, as short distance east of where Felling Metro Station now stands. Work began on the railway in 1836 and the first station on this site was built of wood. This was replaced by a stone building in 1842; this small chapel-like station house still stands, located by Mulberry Street, in Felling. It has the Brandling family crest and bears the initials 'BR'. The building is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England. It was replaced by a larger station in c.1896, when the railway between Gateshead and Pelaw junction was widened from two tracks to four. The old station house was later used as an urban studies centre.
