Old Bridge over Blaydon Burn
There is an old stone road bridge over Blaydon Burn (stream) which is directly north of the modern road bridge. This older single arched bridge dates from 1778 and was built for the Hexham Turnpike Trust. It replaced a ford over the Burn here. The old bridge was altered in 1936, when the current road bridge, which carries the B6317 (Bridge Street / Stella Road), was built. The old bridge is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England. From this point on, Blaydon Burn is now culverted for about 65 metres on its north-eastward course, under the railway line and Riverside walk, to its outlet into the River Tyne.
