Muncaster Mill
Muncaster Mill is a former water-powered corn mill, now a private residence, located off the A595 road, about 1 mile north-east of Ravensglass and 1 mile north-west of Muncaster Castle. There is a station here on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. The mill itself was fed from a weir on the River Mite. The present mill building appears to be 18th/19th century, but there is documentary evidence of there being a mill at Muncaster in 1455.[1] The mill, which had become derelict, was purchased in the 1970s by Lake District Estates (also owners of the railway). It was restored and for many years operated as a visitor attraction, featuring a working water wheel and producing flour. Later it was converted into a private residence. It is part of Muncaster Civil Parish and falls within the Cumberland Council area.
