The Market Cross (aka "Butter Cross") is located on the western side of the village green in Stamfordham, Northumberland. It is a small square, single-storey stone building, with a round arch on each side. The Market Cross was erected in 1735 by Sir Edward Swinburne of Capheaton.
The Market Cross in Stamfordham was was made a listed building on the 28th of April 1969. It is a Grade II listed building and Scheduled Ancient Monument. Details of the listing are available on the National Heritage List for England, which is maintained by Historic England. The building is protected under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 as amended for its special architectural or historic interest.
