Market Cross, Dalton-in-Furness

The Market Cross stands in the Market Place in the heart of Dalton-in-Furness. It was built, along with a crescent shaped stone bench in 1869-1870. It has a 4-step platform and 3-step base and stands on the site of an earlier cross. The benches have slab pillars and tilted tops and were used for the sale of fish at public market. The Market Cross and stone benches are Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
