Hedley, nr Marley Hill, County Durham
Hedley is a former township in the chapelry of Lamesley, of the ancient parish of Chester-le-Street in County Durham. Hedley Hall Farm and cottages are in a remote location, about 1½ miles south-east of Marley Hill (Gateshead) and 2 miles north-east of Stanley (County Durham). Hedley Lane runs past Headley Hall Woods. At the west end of Hedley Lane, by it junction with the A6076, and about a mile north-west of the Hall, is Hedley West Farm and farm shop.
HEDLEY, a township, in the parish and union of Chester-le-Street, Middle division of Chester ward, N. division of the county of Durham, 6 miles (S.W. by S.) from Gateshead; containing 46 inhabitants. This place belonged to the Mundevill family, and was afterwards annexed to the Gibside estate, in the reign of James I., when it was possessed by the Baxters. It forms one of the four constablewicks of the chapelry of Lamesley.
