Hamsterley Primary School


Hamsterley Primary School is set back off Saunders Avenue, the main road, in Hamsterley near Bishop Auckland. It is a community school with about 40 pupils aged 4 to 11. The school was once known as Hamsterley County Primary School, and before that Hamsterley Council School. In Victorian times there was also Hamsterely Infants Board School. Durham County Record Office has log books for the school going back to 1870. An earlier school in the village, built in 1822, which is now the Village Hall.

Co-Curate is a project which brings together online collections, museums, universities, schools and community groups to make and re-make stories and images from North East England and Cumbria.
