Haig Colliery Disaster, 1931


An explosion occurred in the Main Band Seam, over 2 miles under ground, in Haig Pit, Whitehaven Colliery, about 8.15 p.m. on Thursday, 29th January, 1931, whereby 27 miners lost their lives and 13 others were injured.
