Former Craghead Methodist Church

Craghead Methodist Church was located on Wagtail lane, Fawcett Hill in Craghead. After around 100 years of worship, the last service was held here on the 3rd September, 2006, closing because of the declining state of the fabric of the building and the reduced membership. Previously there had been two Methodist churches in the locality; this church on Fawcett Hill originally being Wesleyan Methodist, the other being a Primitive Methodist church on Durham Road (built c. 1890). Following the Methodist Union of 1932, the church at Durham Road eventually closed in the 1960s and then both congregations met here at Fawcett Hill.[1] After the Fawcett Hill church closed, the building was sold, and the adjacent church hall now hosts a showroom for James Cornwell Interiors ltd.
