Former Corn Exchange, Berwick-upon-Tweed
Nos.1a and 3, Sandgate in Berwick upon Tweed is the former Corn Exchange, built in 1858. The rear of the building on Foul Ford (street) has dramatic curved wall with four round headed windows. The building was converted into to a swimming pool in c.1965! The pool is no longer in use, and the building now serves as offices. This is a good, relatively large-scale example of a Corn Exchange, a significant building in a market town, and is surprisingly little altered despite its conversion to a pool in the 1960s. The building is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
