Duke Street

Duke Street is one of the main roads in Barrow-in-Furness, running through the town centre and Hindpool. Duke Street is 1.3 km long running from Walney Street (A590) south-east to The Strand (A5087). Duke Street was designed by Sir James Ramsden as the centrepiece of the 19th century planned town of Barrow. Along the street are The Town Hall, Ramsden Square, Town Square and Schneider Square. The street is presumably named after the Duke of Devonshire, who was the local landholder in the 19th century, and donated the land for the Church of St Mary of Furness.
