Catcleugh Reservoir

Catcleugh Reservoir is located by the A68 road at Catcleugh, about 40 miles north-west of Newcastle. The reservoir was constructed between 1884 and 1905 for the Newcastle and Gateshead Water Company. The reservoir is fed by the River Rede, which continues to the east. Chattlehope Burn and a few other streams discharge into the reservoir. The dam and Valve House are Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England. The Compensation Arch (1899), carrying the River Rede is also Grade II listed. The Guage House and Overflow Spillway are also of interest.
