Burneside War Memorial

Burneside War Memorial is located outside the west wall of the St Oswald's Church in Burneside. The memorial cross was originally unveiled on the 27th March, 1921, by Major Cropper. A plaque on the wall of the church, behind the memorial, is inscribed with the names of 25 local servicemen who lost their lives in the First World War and 11 men who dies in the Second World War. The memorial cross and lych gate were restored during the First World war Centenary and rededicated in a ceremony on the 11th of November 2015. There is an additional First World War wooden memorial cross inside the church with brass plaques for each casualty.
