Broomley First School

Broomley First School is located on Main Road (A695) in Stocksfield. The school has about 130 pupils aged 5 to 9. It converted to an academy in September 2019, as part of the Tyne Community Learning Trust. It was previously known as Broomley County First School. Above the main entrance, the building has inscriptions "Broomely and Bywell ??? School Board" and "Stocksfield School" (School Boards were parish-based public bodies set up between 1870 and 1902 to establish and administer elementary schools). The school name probably relates to the time it was built, when the civil parish here was called Broomely (it was renamed "Broomely and Stocksfield" in 1955, and then just "Stocksfield" in 2019.). There was a previous school of 1851, now Beaumont House
