The Bower, Northumberland

The Bower is a farm in Northumberland, within Greystead Civil Parish. Bower is situated by Chirdon Burn in the Tarset Valley. The Bower was first recorded in 1524, at that time in the possession of Hector Charlton. In c.1715 it belonged to William Charlton. It is thought there was a medieval pele tower here, but this demolished in the 18th century.[1] John Scott was recorded as the farmer at Bower in 1855.[2]
