Birthplace of Lord Eldon

The birthplace of John Scott, first Earl of Eldon and Lord Chancellor, was a grand house on Love Lane (no longer there). John Scott and Elizabeth (Bessie) Surtees, the daughter of a wealthy banker, eloped and married against her father's wishes in 1772.
