Benton House, Hoylake Avenue

Benton House is located off Hoylake Avenue, with the rear of the building on Front Street, in Benton. The house was built in the mid 18th century for Thomas Charles Bigge (1734-1794), who was High Sheriff of Northumberland in 1771. The house had 19th century additions. The building has had a variety of uses over time. The section of the building to the west was a former mineral water factory. In 1909, the house and grounds were used as a golf club. For many decades the building hosted a Conservative Club, which closed in 2021. The rear of the first bay (on Front Street) was converted into a shop, which was Vogue Hair Stylist's Shop. Benton House is Grade II listed building on the National Heritage List for England.
