Former Solicitor's Office, Hawkshead


The former Beatrix Potter Gallery, is located next to The Red Lion on Main Street in Hawkshead. The building is thought to date from the 17th century, but was refaced in the 19th century. The rear wing adjoins No.1 Red Lion Yard. The building was once an office owned by W. Heelis, husband of Beatrix Potter. The building is the property of the National Trust, gifted to the Trust by Beatrix Potter.[1] It hosted the Beatrix Potter Gallery from 1988, but closed for repairs in 2023.The building is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
