Bassington, Cramlington
The name Bassington is seen in Cramlington in Bassington Lane, Bassngton Drive, Bassington Avenue, and the Bassington Industrial Estate. The Industrial Estate is located just off the A1172 road, about ½mile north-west of Cramlington town centre.
Bassington was the name of a farm in the area, which existed before the development of modern Cramlington. The farm was listed in the Northumberland Farms Index for 1860. The sinking of Bassington Colliery was documented in 1773.[1] There was also a quarry at Bassington shown on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of 1864.[2] There was a medieval village of Bassington, and this is a possible location of it.
Not to be confused with Bassington, Alnwick - also in Northumberland.
