Barhauh Hall

Barhauh Hall is located by about 3½ miles north of Alston and is situated by the confluence of Barhaugh Burn with the River South Tyne. Barhauh was a manor in medieval times. Parts of the present Hall date from the late 18th century, with significant 19th century extensions and later modifications. It was originally built as a home for a branch of the Featherstonehaugh family. For many years it was the home of the Dryden family and was said to have a ghost known as "Old Redcap". The building was later converted to a hotel and now hosts the Robinwood Activity Centre, offering accommodation in dormitories and en-suite rooms.
