George Allinson was my grandfather and was awarded the MM for retrieving a gun during a retreat at the Battle of the Somme 1916 and then returning to bring in a wounded fellow soldier.
He was a tank driver until their tank was attacked killing some crew and seriously injuring George. after a spell recovering back in England I believe he returned to the field and served as batman to Col. Wordsworth until the end of the war.
