Abbot Hall, Kirkby Lonsdale

Abbot Hall is located on Mitchelgate, by the junction with Abbotsgate, in Kirkby Lonsdale. the building dates from the 17th century and was at that time a yeoman's house. The building was altered in the 18th and 19th century; the right hand part of the house is thought to be the older part and was previously thatched. It was until recently a farmhouse and is still called Abbot Hall Farm, though now residetial. Nos 1-6 Abbot Hall Barn, behing the Hall was previously part of the farm. Abbot Hall is a Grade II listed building on the National Heritage List for England. Abbot Hall may possibly have been the meeting place and courts of the Abbots and it was the only building in the town documented by Camden in his Britannia of 1588 (presumably an earlier building here?).
