Dunston Staiths reopened for Heritage Open Days in 2021. This followed funding from Historic England, which enabled installation of a scaffold bridge over the burnt section of the walking loop of the Staiths.
Fundraising continues. Tyne & Wear Building Preservation Trust (owners of Dunston Stailths) and Staiths Friends are working in partnership with the National Trust to devise a strategy to sustain the Staiths longer term.
The new school building for Bowburn Primary School opened on the 19th of April 2021. It was built by Esh Construction on the field beside what had been Bowburn Junior School, before it's amalgamation with Bowburn Nursery & Infant School in September 2019. Construction of the new school building began in February 2020, shortly before the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
