Wolfcleugh, West Allen

Wolfcleugh (farm) and High Wolfcleugh are situated by the River West Allen, south of where the steep gorge of Wolf Cleugh (stream) joins the river. At High Wolfcleugh, there are earthwork remains of a medieval enclosure.[1] Wolfcleugh Wool Mill was located by the River West Allen (no longer extant).[2] Whellan's 1855 directory of Northumberland lists Wolfcleugh under the grieveship of High West Allen and records Robert Telfer as shopkeeper here.[3] Today, Wolfcleugh is part of West Allen Civil Parish.
