The cenotaph in Keswick is located in a triangular area of land between Penrith Road, Station Street and the River Greta. The memorial was unveiled on the 21st of May 1922 in a ceremony attended by Lord Rochdale, Walter Swinburn and Reverend C.H. Lewin of St Johns Church. The memorial was built to commemorate 109 local servicemen who lost their lives in the First World War. The sculptor was Francis Derwent Wood (1871 -1926), who was born in Keswick.
