The costs of building Walney Bridge, over the Walney Chanel in Barrow-in-Furness, had been recouped by tolls paid to cross the bridge by 1935. On the 4th April 1935, the tolls were abolished, and the Duchess of York officially renamed it Jubilee Bridge, to mark the silver jubilee of King George V.
