Walking


Pedestrianism was a popular spectator sport in the late 18th and 19th centuries, often involving betting! Newcastle and Gateshead were considered to be two of the great centres of pedestrianism and argued to have contributed to the popularity and success of middle and long distance running in the North East today.[1]
