The Ship Inn, Old Saltburn
The Ship Inn is a public house and resturant located on Saltburn Road in Saltburn-by-the-Sea. The Ship Inn is part of the original fishing settlement of Old Saltburn. It was originally a house, built in the late 18th century, with adjoining early 19th century fisherman's cottages.[1] It later became a public house and over time was altered to subsume the cottages. A former landlord of the Ship Inn, John Andrew, was reputedly 'King of the Smugglers'! as well as being Master of the Cleveland Hunt, a Lieutenant in the North Yorks militia, good friend of the gentry.[2] The Ship Inn is a Grade II listed building on the National Heritage List for England.
