The Governor's House

The Governor's House, No. 1 Palace Green, Berwick-upon-Tweed. This was formerly the residence of the Military Governor of the Garrison of Berwick-upon-Tweed. The house was completed in c.1719, with 19th century alterations and additions. It was built by Nicholas Hawksmoor (1661-1730), for the Board of Ordnance as part of the development of the Berwick garrison barracks, and commissioned in 1716. To the rear (east) of the house are The Govenor's Gardens, around which there have been residential developments. The Governor's House is a Grade II* listed building on the National Heritage List for England.
