Stranton

Today, Stranton is an area, and the name of a major road, in Hartlepool. However, in the past, Stranton was a distinct village and was also the centre of the ancient Parish of Stranton; All Saints Church (the parish church) dates from the 12th century. In the mid-19th century, Stranton became the nucleus of industrial growth in West Hartlepool. It was eventually subsumed into the growing town, with West Hartlepool and Hartlepool (Headland) merged into a single borough in 1967. Camerons Brewery was established here in the mid 19th century, including the famous Lion Brewery. Park Tower dates from the early 20th century. These fall within Stranton Conservation Area.
