Rugley, Denwick
Rugley Farm is located off Rugley Road, about 2 miles south-west of Alnwick. Rugley Burn flows to the north of the farm, past Rugley Woods. Old Rugley (a single house) is located just under ½mile south of the farm. Rugley Farm is notable as being a planned farm, developed in the early 19th century, but incorporating an 18th century cottage. A barn with an engine house was added in c.1840. It has a brick chimney, which is a distinctive local landmark. The planed group of farm buildings, to the west of the farmhouse, are Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.[1] Whellan's directory of 1855 lists Rugley under the township of Alnwick South Side, in the ancient parish of Alnwick, and the farmer at that time was Thomas Chrisp.[2] Today, Rugley is part of Denwick Civil Parish (detached part). There is a notable old limekiln west of Old Rugley.
