Gateshead gallery announces £5,000 pot for ceramics scholar

"A NORTH East gallery has announced a new £5,000 bursary for a UK ceramicist – the latest gift from a man who loved the art form and trusted the region to champion it. The Shipley Art Gallery in Gateshead is home to the Henry Rothschild Collection which includes ceramic works by leading lights including Bernard Leach, Lucie Rie and Hans Coper. It was in 2007 that Mr Rothschild allowed himself to be identified as the man behind much of the Shipley’s fine ceramics collection. Previously, to protect the owner’s identity, it had been known as the Eagle Collection...."
