Graves on the edge
-
Description
"This part of the graveyard at Brampton Old Church is above a steep bank down to the River Irthing (photo http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2866192 ). The land has been collapsing due to erosion, and these graves are at risk of slipping down. The parish council is taking steps to have some graves moved (see Cumberland News http://www.cumberlandnews.co.uk/news/erosion-at-north-cumbria-churchyard-may-mean-graves-have-to-move-1.928290?referrerPath=2.1825/home ). The churchyard is closed for new burials, which now take place at the nearby public cemetery (photo http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2866156 )." Photo by Rose and Trev Clough, 2012. -
