Old Church

Brampton

  • Description

"This is disused, and is only the chancel of the original church, which was built in the 12C partly of reused stone from the Roman Wall . It has a Norman round-headed lancet window. The eastern half, including the east window and cross finial, is an extension of 1891. In the porch of 1861 is the front of a monument with quatrefoiled circles. The tower and nave of the church were demolished between 1787 and 1789, the stone being used to improve the chapel (now church) in Brampton. The belfry and porch cross finialwere added in 1788."
