St Peter's Church, Kirkbampton - Victorian floor tiles
-
Description
"Located in the sanctuary, in front of the altar. Decorative encaustic tiles with a central motif depicting the Lamb of God, or Agnus Dei. The design looks identical to one produced by Robert Minton Taylor, c.1876, shown here http://thedecoratedtile.wikia.com/wiki/Agnus_Dei_Encaustic_Panel_-_Robert_Minton_Taylor . These are almost the same as an Agnus Dei panel from the early 1840s made by Minton & Co., as seen at Penkhull Church, Stoke-on-Trent http://www.heritagetiling.com/victorian-tile-restoration-other-projects/penkhull-church/ . Some quilts are draped around the area, part of an exhibition being held in the church." Photo by Rose and Trev Clough, 2014. -
