Boretree Tarn

  • Description

"On the ridge between Finsthwaite and Rusland. According to Heaton Cooper there were originally three small tarns here mentioned in deeds dated 1616. A dam was built to enlarge them into one Tarn in the late 18th. Century. The name Boretree is thought to relate to 'Bore' an old name for the Elder." Photo by Michael Graham, 2007.
