Lanercost Priory Church, Stained Glass Window

  • Description

"Originally part of the Augustinian priory founded in the mid-twelfth century, this building has been used as the parish church since the Dissolution of the Monasteries by Henry VIII in 1536. This is one of three windows in the Priory church that were designed by Sir Edward Burne-Jones and executed by the William Morris Company. It depicts the Annunciation to the Shepherds. It was erected in 1890 in memory of George William Frederick Howard, 7th Earl of Carlisle." Photo by David Dixon, 2012.
