Juxtaposition, by Hideo Furuta

  • Description

"Four steel tables and eight hand-carved granite spheres created by Japanese artist in Saltwell Park.Hideo Furuta studied mathematics and physics in Tokyo before learning traditional Japanese methods of stone carving - which he still employs since coming to Britain in 1984. Rejecting power-tools, he uses chisels, exploiting natural fault lines in the stone and keeping carving to a minimum.... Fascinated by the relationship between mathematics and Fine Art this work reflects this investigation...."
