    "A late 19th Century drinking fountain to the north-west of Saltwell Towers mansion. It is inscribed: "GEORGE CHARLTON ESQ JP Mayor of Gateshead 1874 and 1875 in recognition of his labours in the cause of social reform". Tyne and Wear HER(8262): Gateshead, Saltwell Park, Charlton Memorial Fountain The photograph shows the north side of Saltwell Towers [[1581133]] which features a 3-storey entrance tower with crenellated parapet and a high polygonal stair-turret capped by a circular pyramidal roof and decorative weather-vane that wouldn't be out of place in Disneyland.
