Lost Dialects - exhibition at The Word

  • Description

Exhibition in the award winning new library in South Shields, opened in October 2016. This project invites visitors to share words and phrases they haven't heard for a while. The luggage tags display thousands of donated words, which will be catalogued by a team from the university who will create a data bank. A closer look revealed words like 'clarty' - muddy, and 'spuggie' - sparrow, and 'Am gannin yem noo' - I'm going home now.
