Pit wheels, Ryhope Colliery

  • Description

"Pit winding wheels have been installed on the site of many former collieries as a reminder of past times. Between these two wheels is an additional semi-circle with relevant pictures rendered in wire. An "A" type access control gives onto the cycle path which forms part of National Cycle Network route 1." Photo by Oliver Dixon, 2016.
